Grant Writer, Tiny House Builder and Millennial EntrepreneurThe path to financial independence for the millennial workforce requires ingenuity & grit. After 10 years working as a massage therapist and still paying education debt, speaker Deirdre Morrison decided to reassess career & try to stabilize her income.
In November 2017, she took a year-long volunteer service with Americorps VISTA in Colorado–working in project management and community development with the goal of paying off student loans & an eye toward changing careers.
Her skills were recognized in the community and she was recruited for a remote-work position with Solar Energy International (SEI). Self motivated, she will research and write grant proposals, brainstorm and implement other fund development. SEI is a not-for-profit technical training program for solar, wind, and micro-hydro–with campuses in Costa Rica and Oman, as well as Colorado. Their alumni work in a range of capacities, from large utility-scale projects to developing world implementation.
Deirdre‘s modus operandi is to prioritize time working with her hands–with people, construction/building, and art, as she does other ‘work’ things. Her frugal lifestyle and skills led her to build her own tiny house. She’s traveled the globe in support of permaculture practices & sustainable construction knowledge. She provided insight into one of her recent frugal living projects, planning, constructing and living in a tiny house in Portland, Oregon.
She is adept at cultivating community equity, and creating opportunities that help people slow down while opening themselves to new experiences. She’s highly motivated by hot springs, touch, and travel. Her presentation will bring a wealth of insight into the millennial perspective.
